On a last minute whim yesterday, we decided to make some salt dough ornaments.
They are super easy to make. The recipe we used is as follows:
1 C. salt + 1 C. flour + 1/2 C. water
Mix salt and flour; add water and knead until a smooth dough forms.
Add a little bit of water if it's too stiff (just a little!) or more flour if it's sticky.
We rolled out the dough and used cookie cutters to create shapes. We then use a pen to poke a hole through the dough while it was still soft so that we could add ribbon later on.
Typically, I would have let the ornaments dry out overnight or bake them in the oven (low temp for a few hours) but I had read somewhere that I could dry them out in the microwave to speed up the process. I decided to give that a try and it worked great. I put them in for about 4-5 minutes, let them cool, and then they were ready to be painted (and "glittered").
Some of the finished ornaments...
