Bones

This week's home school focus is...dinosaurs!  To kick off our learning today, we visited the Burpee Museum in Rockford to see some life-sized dinosaur skeletons.  I knew that this wasn't going to be the most exciting museum trip, especially for the littler kids, but we just had to go see the dinosaurs.  The highlight was definitely seeing Jane, a juvenile T-Rex.

Caleb's face when he first saw the life-sized dinos...

The larger T-Rex against the back wall is a life-sized replica of an adult T-Rex...

...and here is Jane, fully restored.

Can you tell that Meredith did NOT want her picture taken?  Is it that obvious?  Can you also tell that she picked out her outfit today? ;)

Checking out some other T-Rex related things...

There aren't too many hands-on things at this museum, but you can be sure that my kids found just about every button there was to press.

This wasn't the greatest museum experience ever.  Caleb definitely enjoyed seeing the dinosaurs.  But overall, it wasn't much fun for any of the kids to just stare at a bunch of dead things in clear glass boxes (there were more dinosaur skeletons, as well as other once-alive-but-now-dead-and-stuffed animals to see).  Thankfully, it wasn't too expensive to get in ($10 for me, and the kids were all free) and since I knew all of this beforehand, I only planned to stay for a short time anyway.

Stay tuned at the end of this week for more about all of the dinosaur-y things we will be learning about this week!
