Bye Bye Birdies

We said good-bye to our chicks yesterday!  We kept them for a week after they hatched, and it was pretty incredible to see how much they grew in those days.  Not only did they get bigger, they also got more savvy with their skills....we frequently saw them testing out their wings, and one even managed to jump out of their box so a higher-sided container became necessary!

The kids have really enjoyed this project....and though there were some times that they became a bit overconfident with their handling of chicks, mostly they were gentle and very responsible with them.

"hello?  chickies?"

we loved seeing their little wings grow!

Yesterday, we took them out to a farm, and the kids enjoyed seeing the horses & other chickens.  All but two of them will stay at this farm with Farmer Mark & his wife; the other 2 went to a friend who is beginning the chicken-raising process!

These guys are about a month and a half old.

While I will definitely miss having the chickies around, I am looking forward to not having to check on them all day long, and to be honest, my living room was starting to smell a little farm-ish!

He Did It!

No more training wheels!

This week, Caleb has mastered the art of riding his 2-wheeler without his training wheels.  He has been wanting to accomplish this for quite a while, and he is so excited that he can now do it.

Daddy & Grandma both worked with him to help him learn, and on Monday night, he took off.  Literally.

He now doesn't need any help from us to go for a ride, and while a small part of me once again mourns this whole growing-up thing, I am thrilled for him.

He is very excited to get a bigger bike.  He has needed a new one, as he outgrew this one last Fall, but we wanted to wait until he learned to ride without the training wheels before getting a larger one.

This has been such an exciting year of growth for this firstborn of ours.

First Day of Summer

Despite the fact that it is currently dark and stormy outside, we were determined to make the most of the relative sunshine/warmth this morning, and the kids have been begging me to set up the little pool.  It wasn't super warm, and the sun stayed behind the clouds most of the time, but the kids had fun.
